October 12, 2006Whats the biggest Engine i can put into my 1990 pickup 4wd?
October 12, 2006Small block v8, GM or I mean ford, or you can stick with yota if it is your preference and go with the I-6 from a supra.
October 12, 2006I would be inclined to think that with the right modifycations any small block V8 will go. You can get some adapter kits for the 350, 302, and a few others.
October 12, 2006A chevy 350 is the best choice because all you need to do is fab up some mounts for the motor sometimes have to fab mounts for tranny too. If you have to fab tranny mounts you'll have to cut the driveshaft and have it rebalanced. You can order a bellhousing to fit your existing tranny and bolt right up to the 350. Good luck in your hunt.
October 12, 2006I have at my disposal a 350 chevy engine with the 4 spd tranny
October 12, 2006Just have the driveshaft to the 350 cut and spiced onto your yota driveshaft and have it balanced. Then just your mounts need done. You might have to be a little persuasive with the firewall.
October 12, 2006Im not sure but is their any way of puttin in the tundra motor or a tacoma motor? I know buddies that have a tundra and a tacoma and their engines have nice power and i like them but im not sure if thiers any way of puttin one of them in?
October 12, 2006The Tacoma 3.4 is an easy fit, if your truck already has the 3.0 V6 than the 3.4 will bolt right in, If your truck has the 22re 4cyl than you will have to make or buy new motor mounts, but its do able. I think the 3.4(5VZ) out of the 96-04 tacomas is would be the best engine for your truck, plenty of power and torque(190hp/220ftlb), but much lighter than a big american V8.
October 12, 2006Howdy and welcome to our site, if you want to look at a few pics of the T-350 chevy swap you can look in my gallery (teamdamin), I'm putting in a T-350 trans, you can get a good idea of what to expect/encounter.
October 12, 2006you can put (and all have been done before..):
Toyota 3.4l V6 from the Tacoma/4Runner (TRD supercharger is a nice addon)
Toyota/Lexus V8 from the SC300
Toyota I6 Supra (mk.III / mk.IV)/IS300
Chevy Vortec V6
Buick 4.0/4.4 V8
If you go the GM route, look at getting a Downey catalog, as they have the adaptors and mounts for each motor.
October 19, 2006Has anybody seen a big block in a pre tacoma truck.
